Taco station! Inspired by La Carnita @ John St

I like putting together taco stations either for myself or with company. It’s such a fun and interactive way of enjoying a meal. It’s simple to throw together last minute with fresh pick de gallo, 1-2 proteins (saffron squid and chicken liver), corn tortillas, topped with sautéed onions, mushroom, fresh onions and avocados!

Toronto has so many taco joints so when La Carnita opened a bigger joint closeby, we opted to check it out on a lazy Sunday morning.

We got Mexican street corn, a few tacos, and scallop ceviche with plantain chips. Food came quickly and waiters attentive. Our only disappointment is that the tortillas were cold and the chicken had a bit too much batter. I think I’ll try to make Mexican street corn at home next if I can find corn in husk. The plantain chips though will be more challenging without a fryer. Hmm…

no knead lemon thyme bread

I also tried to bake no knead bread for the first time. I flavored mine with thyme and lemon zest. Aesthetically it was a bit lacking in the beautiful crack on top but even for someone who’s not crazy about bread it was quite irrisitable.
